Hair Analysis Science Investigation Kit

Did you know that a single hair can provide class evidence to place a suspect at the scene of a crime? Students conduct two hair analysis experiments using the same standard procedures used by forensic examiners. Scientific process and basic laboratory skills are used to distinguish between the morphology of hair samples from humans and other animal species. Includes directions andmaterials for mounting samples and creating scale casts for analyzing species specific cuticle scale patterns. Illustrated descriptions of hair structures guide students in characterizing hairs by microscopic examination. Includes flash drive of hair images, complete instruction manual, and student worksheets. Allow 90 minutes lab time to complete experiments. Items required but not included:Microscopes, hair brushes, forceps, and small plastic bags. Designed for 24 students working in groups of four.
